Welcome to Room 14!
L.A.
This week we did some final editing to improve our stories and newspaper articles before the P.A.T. on Wednesday. While the grade 6's were writing their exam, the grade 5's did their School Wide Write. We have also started reading a new class novel called Wild Robot. Ask me about how the robot came to the island.
Math
We finished up our math test on fractions, decimals, ratio and percent. Ask me about how I did on this test. We have now started a quick look at number patterns, and are focusing on information found in bar graphs and line graphs. Next week we will work on algebraic expressions with letter variables.
e.g. n +6=9

Science
This week in Science, we wrote our unit test on Electricity and Magnetism. Tests will be returned to students as soon as possible. We also began working on our Egg Drop Challenge. We had a “budget’ of $100 and had to spend it all. Some of the supplies we could buy were: pipe cleaners, cotton balls, balloons, paper, and rubber bands. We built our parachutes and we will be testing them next week. Ask us about our designs!
Social
We continued learning about democracy in Ancient Athens this week. Specifically, we researched about the Council of 500, Assembly, city states, and the roles of women and men. Ask us what we think about the Ancient Athenian form of democracy and the differences from the form of democracy we see in Alberta today.
