Math
This week in math we finished off our decimal, fraction, percent and ratio centres and had a test on Wednesday. We will finish off our test on Monday because we ran out of time!
Language Arts
We continued working on writing newspaper articles and practiced including quotes and organizing our information into clear paragraphs. On Thursday, we did a practice PAT to make sure we are organizing our time when writing the story and newspaper article next week.
Social Studies
This week, we took a closer look at democracy in ancient Athens. We also compared ancient Athens democracy to Canadian democracy. Ask me about the differences between the two!
On Friday, we had a great discussion and opportunity to journal our thoughts/feelings on whether or not the government should be allowed to make decisions for citizens. This conversation was brought up because of the Alberta School wide walkout. Room 22 and 14 had interesting discussions on this event.
Science
For the next step in our Flight unit, the students are completing the egg drop challenge. They will have to design and create a parachute that will protect a hardboiled egg from breaking from a 10-foot drop.
We also looked at the parts of an airplane and how the forces of air allow the airplane to take flight. We also examined birds, including their feathers and wings.
We have a unit test on Electricity and Magnetism on Monday! A review sheet was sent home on Thursday. Please check Mrs. Pierce’s and Ms. Drever’s blog for review material!
