April 2-5

Welcome to
FOURTEENIA's
Weekly Update

Math
This week in math we tried a folding fractions
challenge. Using a square paper, we had to fold to find squares and triangles with either one half or one quarter of the original area. Next week we will work on some fraction centres to get more hands on practice. If you are interested in trying the activity at home, here is the link:

We also looked at the concept of ratio this week, including part to part, part to whole and how to find equivalent ratios. We will practice ratio next week in our hands on centres.

L.A.
We continued to focus on story writing this week and will get a chance to practice in another School Wide Write next week. We focused on including interesting dialogue tags and strong verbs in our writing and making sure we have a good mix of action, description and dialogue. Ask me about the 2+2 rule for dialogue.

We are almost finished reading The World Below! What will happen to Silvia, Eric and Carlos? Will everyone make it out alive?

Social
There is a major event happening around Alberta, it is an Election!

Do you know the candidates? We will give you a hint:

Did you watch the election debate? Do you know the candidates political party platform? Ask your child who the candidates are and have a discussion regarding them.

Science
We have almost completed our hands on science centres. After we are done we will be reviewing and having a quiz on the different concepts we are learning.

TSN
On April 26th, we are going to start our last round of T.S.N (Try Something New).

Buddies
In buddies today we are making acrostic poems.

Field Trip
On April 15th we are going to SpacePort. We are still looking for some parent volunteers.

Rafiki Orders

The Me to We group was hard at work again this week sorting and delivering the Rafiki bracelets. Great work group! We sold 135 bracelets to raise money for health care in Kenya.
