Weekly Update
Math
Unfortunately we have no estimation problem ready this week. Students, remember to email your pictures to Mrs. Kis or you can take pictures at school if you have a great idea for estimation!
Grade 6's finished up practicing Order of Operations and Integers. Grade 5's worked on some multiplication problem solving, including looking for key words in the problem.
Both grades began to work on division. We used a physical model of partial quotients to show that division involves making equal groups of a number. We will continue working on personal strategies for division next week.

Language Arts
We continued reading in our book club novel study groups and started recording important information from the book, like character traits and important vocabulary.
We have completed our planning for our vocabulary photography project. The next step is to take turns to show off our photography skills.
Janiah's visual story represents the word Diabolical. Can you see any examples of rule of thirds and leading lines?

We have finished our author reports which are uploaded to Iris if parents want to take a look. Now we have started on our individual book projects. Ask me what I am creating for my project.
Social
We are learning about the different types of government. All the Grade 5/6 rooms are different countries. When we left our country we were required to have our passport with us. When we entered a country there was a customs officer who stamped our passports. Each country had different rules and expectations. Ask me about some of the events that happened in our different countries.
We have started talking about the Pillars. Our first pillar conversation was about equity and fairness.
Please have a conversation with your family about your heritage.
