Souper Stars Health Project
Learning intentions: 
1.    Examine the impact of physical activity and nutrition on the immune system and overall health.
2.    Evaluate the need for balance and variety in daily activities that promote personal health; e.g., physical activity, relaxation, learning, sleep…
3.    Examine ways in which healthy eating can accommodate a broad range of eating behaviours; e.g., individual preferences, vegetarianism, cultural food patterns, allergies/medical conditions, diabetes 
4.    Analyze personal eating behaviours—food and drinks—in a variety of settings; e.g., home, school, restaurants 
Assignment:

Research a topic related to Souper Stars and create a presentation to share your information.

Step 1: Choose a focused research question.
Some examples:
What is cross country skiing and why it is a healthy activity?
How does eating Japanese cuisine meet Canada’s food guide?
What should be included in a week’s worth of healthy lunches?
What are the healthiest ways to cook food?
Is it healthier to eat in a restaurant or at home?
What do you need to eat if you are diabetic?
Why is too much screen time unhealthy?

Step 2: Write a least 5 mini research questions.
e.g. Big question: How does eating Japanese food meet Canada’s food guide?

Mini questions:
1.   What kinds of food are included in Japanese cuisine?
2.   What cooking methods are common in Japanese cuisine?
3.   What are some Japanese recipes that are healthy?
4.   Is it healthy to eat raw fish? 
5.   How many servings of fish should we eat according to Canada’s food guide?


Step 3: You will have 2 class periods to research.


Step 4: You will have 2 class periods to create a presentation. The presentation format is open. Choose a presentation type and check with the teacher to make sure it can be completed in 2 class periods.
