November 12 to 16

Welcome to Room 14 BLOG!

L.A.

This week we prepared for our class debate "Be it resolved that students should be allowed to bring cell phones to Ranchlands School". We discussed the importance of providing supporting details to our arguments and learned about rebuttals (the art of arguing politely). Ask me about whether I am arguing for the Pro or Con side.

For the Tale of Despereaux, we worked in groups to compare the character traits of Despereaux and Roscuro. Ask me about why Miggery Sow is headed to the castle.

Social

We learned about plebiscites. Ask me if I was for or against the Olympics coming to Calgary. A plebiscite is a right to _____________ over a specific ________________.

We have completed our regions presentations. It is a great idea to review the location of each region. Refer to the map below. Remember there are 7 regions. We will be having a quiz. We will be participating in review sessions prior to our quiz.

We talked about the importance of current events. Some of the ways we can keep up to date with what is happening in our world are; watching the news, reading the paper (paper or online), listening to the radio, and talking with our adults and friends.

Science

We have completed our Wetlands unit. Next week, we will be participating in review sessions. Be prepared to participate in a challenge at student led conferences.

Math

We worked on reviewing some different multiplication strategies using Base 10 blocks, arrays, and partitioning numbers to make them more friendly to work with. It is important to remember that multiplication is a way to do repeated addition quickly. We are encouraged to use personal strategies for multiplication... we will explore some more strategies next week.

Other

Our next patrol meeting is Thursday, December 13 in Room 22.

Souper Stars- We learned about fine dining etiquette including table setting. Next week is our graduation!
