October 15th to 19th

Weekly Learning Adventure


We have a field trip MONDAY!

Reminders for Weaselhead:

  • Make sure to dress for the weather, we are outside ALL day
  • The trails are dry, runners are appropriate
  • Bring your snack and lunches that are litterless
  • Be on time for school, bus leaves at 9:30

Math

We introduced the terms multiples (grade 5 and 6) and factors, primes, and composites (grade 6)

Grade 5's worked on multiples of numbers between 2 and 11 i.e.) 4,8,12,16,20,24 etc.

Grade 6's worked on factors using factor rainbows and factor tress. Ask us about prime vs. composite numbers i.e.) The factors of 18 are 1,2,3,6,9, and 18

We continued working on our math riddles. Ask me to share one with you

Science


We continued working on our Wetlands projects and will be moving into preparing our research information for peer assessment

We created a rubrics to help us show and assess our learning

L.A.

We participated in a fishbowl discussion to share our ideas about The Tale of Despereaux. Some of the topics we discussed were: Why did Lester betray Despereaux? Why would the Mouse Council not forgive Despereaux? Why did Despereaux not renounce his actions?

We finished reading Book the First. Now the story will continue in the pitch darkness of the dungeon, instead of the beautiful light in the castle

We practised our non-fiction reading through discussing text features such as table of contents, indexes, glossaries, and captions

Social

We have created expectations regarding group work 


We have created our 7 Regions of Canada Research groups. We are discussing what media form we are considering presenting our learning in i.e.) Google slides, iPad apps, poster, etc

Other

Super Stars - We learned how to safely cut fruits and vegetables and then had a delicious and healthy snack
